LONDON, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Britain's largest drugmaker Pfizer said on Thursday it would pay more than half of its US sales tax, and a second tax rate would be imposed for some of its products, it said, adding it was looking to buy US generic versions of its medicines.
Pfizer, which sells its cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor, said it would pay US sales tax on the company's products - including Viagra, the branded version of its erectile dysfunction drug.
The tax rate of half will be applied to sales of its medicines, said the company.
"This is the second time in history that a tax rate is to be imposed after sales tax," said its president and chief executive, George Lachas.
Pfizer's stock dropped 5.7 percent on the market today after shares fell by 1.5 percent to £41.58.
The company said it had agreed to pay US tax on sales of its medicines for up to 180 days.
